Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) also known as ARNIS, KALI and ESKRIMA are forms of combative and street-fighting systems and methods that employ impact weapons (stick-fighting), edged weapons (knife defense & tactics) and empty hands (Filipino boxing and Filipino ground fighting) methods indigenous to the Philippines.
Punong Guro Myrlino P. Hufana, the pundador (founder) and punong guro (chief instructor, grandmaster) of the Hufana Traditional Arnis International fighting systems, teaches the purest form of Filipino Martial Arts with a combination of modernized methods applicable to today's street-fighting, combatives and self-defense. The HTAI Arnis program is definitely not a popularized mixed martial arts or sports program. It is a weapons based and a stand-alone fighting system that focuses on self-preservation and survival. FMA is also known as the bladed arts, blade defensive arts and knife arts which are practiced around the world.
Improve dexterity and coordination of your hands and feet. Develop quick reflex, sensitivity and situational awareness. Consistent training greatly improve your self-confidence and comfort with dealing against edged weapons and multi-attacker situations. It is with the ability to adapt and immediately conform to any combative scenario that Filipino Martial Arts thrive and excel.
All students from all levels of proficiency are welcome. Due to the dangerous nature of the weapons involved in training, children under the age of 13 are not allowed unless a parent is also training.
Before you decide to join our HTAI Family, you are welcome to 2-FREE trial classes.
No appointment needed but be ready to train with us! Just watching is not allowed. See you soon!
Maestro Paul A. Quinn, Student & HTAI Instructor (Redmond, WA), 03.2014 As a 16+ year student of PG Hufana, I am forever amazed at how the curriculum continues to grow. The quality of the classes gets better and better and I am continually challenged. When I think I have something down PG takes it to a whole new level. It's an amazing journey.
Maestro Dave DeVore, Student & HTAI Instructor (Issaquah, WA) Having been a student of Punong Guro Hufana for the past 16 years, I must admit that I have a biased opinion. Not only do I consider him a mentor and a fantastic instructor, he is what I'd consider "the real deal" in regards to his combative FMA style. PG Hufana is much more than this though. He is also family and close friend. PG Hufana is open minded and does and does what he says, propagates the Filipino Martial Arts. PG Hufana dreamed of creating a forum for Filipino Martial Artists to be exposed and to learn from many different Masters and Grandmasters of the FMA. PG has created the World Filipino Martial Arts Association (www.WorldFMA.com) . PG Hufana has surrounded himself and his students with many of the world's foremost instructors of the FMA. His willingness to share his art as well as that of the other top instructors is refreshing and always exciting. I have not missed one of his FMA Expos.
I have been a career law enforcement officer for the past 29 years. Over that time I have taken many different styles of training (Karate, Aikido, Police Defensive Tactics and Submission Wrestling). I found the Filipino Martial Arts to be job specific for me. Many of the things I've learned over the years with PG Hufana have come to light in many altercations I've had on the streets that I patrol. One of my main goals in training in the FMA is so I am able to go home to my family at night after my patrol shift ends. Training with PG Hufana has kept me safe and able to do this year after year.
I was fortunate to accompany PG Hufana on his trips to the Philippines. PG Hufana teaches not only the "art" but the customs, traditions, language, and etiquette of the Filipino people. I was present when many of the Masters and Grandmasters congratulated PG Hufana on his students and their "combative ways" as well as their traditional mannerisms and the respect they show to everyone. It made me very proud to be a part of the Hufana Traditional Arnis International TEAM. Because of the positive influence PG Hufana has had on me and my family, I have enrolled both my sons in the Academy's Traditional Taekwondo program and they have both progressed in the past 3 years. My sons are learning patience and respect in class. PG Hufana, along with his kids (Michael & Lizelle), do a fantastic job of working with all different types of kids. I am truly amazed at the patience and commitment they have to assist all the children in their classes. This does not end with the Taekwondo classes either, they stress the importance of succeeding in all aspects of life. Our family will continue to support and attend the Academy's training for many years to come. Maraming Salamat Po PG! ("Thank you very much" in Tagalog)
